Description

The the programme aims to enhance the practice of existing community
development practitioners who are to be equipped with both theoretical knowledge
and the practical skills necessary to initiate, implement and manage community
development programmes and/or projects at various levels. It targets a wide range of
candidates, especially those wanting to or working in the different areas of
community upliftment in local government, with NGOs and CBOs and corporations
with corporate social responsibility programmes. The programme is therefore
designed to build competence and to provide a qualification for community
development practitioners already involved in the field and those aspiring to get
involved therein. The programme objectives are to:
 Enhance students with knowledge, skills and values in community
development theory, community practice, community development leadership,
and social services and social administration.
 Provide community development workers with the professional development
competencies to alleviate poverty and enhance national development from the
grassroots with the ability to facilitate community mapping, community
development planning, implementing, and monitoring viable community
projects for societal upliftment.
 Produce graduates with skills for community-based research, data
interpretation, project management, and the writing of research report.
 Prepare individuals that will offer community development interventions and
social services to communities based on their local context.

Minimum requirements

• EGCSE/ IGCSE/ GCE O’Level: 6 passes with C grade or better, including English Language.
• National Senior Certificate/ International Secondary Certificate/ Matriculation with a Bachelors level recommendation with a minimum of 6 passes including English Primary Language.
• Diploma in a relevant qualification

Employment Pathways

Graduates with this qualification will become professional Community Development Practitioners able to work in government sectors, NGOs, and CBOs as well as in religious and other community development environments
